Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before stepping through our doors.

Getting Started
How do I get started?
Simple — book a free trial class directly on our website. No experience needed, no commitment required. Show up, train, and see if Black Lion is right for you. We’ll take care of the rest.

I’ve never trained before — is this for me?
Absolutely. Most of our members started with zero martial arts experience. Coach Will works with all levels — beginners, recreational athletes, and competitive fighters. Every class is welcoming and ego-free.

How long is a class?
All classes run approximately 60 minutes, including warm-up, the main session, and cool-down. We offer classes 6 days a week from morning to evening — there’s always a time that fits your schedule.

How often should I train as a beginner?
We recommend 2–3 times per week to start. This gives your body time to recover while building skill and conditioning. As you progress, many members train 4–5 times per week across multiple disciplines.

Training & Equipment
What disciplines do you offer?
We offer Muay Thai, Boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, No-Gi Wrestling, Strength & Conditioning, and Kids MMA & Muay Thai — six disciplines under one roof, coached by a seasoned professional with 20+ years of experience.

Can I train multiple disciplines with one membership?
Yes — our Unlimited Monthly and Annual memberships give you access to every class across all disciplines, as many times per week as you want. One price, unlimited training.

Do I need to bring my own equipment?
No equipment needed to start. For your first class, just bring athletic clothes and a water bottle. Once you decide to commit, we’ll guide you on what gear to get. The gym has gloves and pads available.

What should I wear to class?
For your first class, athletic clothes and a water bottle are all you need. For regular training, we recommend boxing gloves and hand wraps for Muay Thai, Boxing, and MMA. All training is done barefoot or in socks — no shoes on the mat.

For sparring classes, a full sparring kit is required: 16oz boxing gloves, mouthguard, cup, and shin guards. For BJJ, a gi is optional — we train both gi and no-gi.

Do you offer online training?
Yes — we offer virtual training sessions for members who can’t make it in person. Train from anywhere and stay on track with your martial arts goals.

Membership & Pricing
What are your membership options and pricing?
We offer a Day Pass ($40), Basic Monthly ($120 / 4 classes), Unlimited Monthly ($179), Annual ($1,800), and a PT 12-Pack ($1,200). No joining fee, no entry costs — just show up and train. Current pricing reflects our introductory rates, so locking in now means locking in the best price.

Is there a joining fee or long-term contract?
No joining fee. No long-term contract. You can cancel anytime. One thing worth knowing — our current rates are intentionally below market as we grow. As demand increases, pricing will be reviewed. Members who stay locked in keep their rate; if you cancel and return later, the new rate applies.

Can I freeze or cancel my membership?
You can cancel anytime with no penalty. That said, our current pricing is promotional — among the lowest you’ll find for this calibre of coaching in Toronto. If you pause and return later, you’ll re-join at the updated rate. Our advice: stay in, even at a reduced frequency.

Kids Programs
What age can kids start training?
Children as young as 4–6 can join our play-based introductory Muay Thai and MMA classes, which focus on movement, coordination, and fun. Formal technique training and structured sparring typically begin around ages 7–12. All kids classes are age-appropriate and safety-first.

Are kids and adults in separate classes?
Yes — kids and adults train in completely separate classes. This ensures age-appropriate instruction, safe sparring, and a focused environment for everyone.

Competition
Do you train competitive fighters?
Absolutely. Coach Will provides comprehensive competition coaching for members who want to compete at local amateur and provincial championship levels representing Black Lion. Whether it’s your first amateur bout or you’re chasing a title, Will has the experience to get you there.
